Busy reading "Accuracy and Precision for Long Range Shooting"
On page 11 he has a WEZ graph, with two points, one for TS (transonic) and the other for KE (kinetic energy)
I'm familiar with TS being roughly Mach 1.2 to 0.8.
Can someone pls try to explain this KE point to me ?

In this context it does not seem to be terminal kinetic energy in the traditional hunting view.
He has it as a point along the distance graph, in the same way that for a particular projectile and velocity combo at some distance along the flight path the projectile will enter transonic flight.
The only thing I can think of is that it is the distance at which a projectile / velocity combo falls below the "magic number" value for KE, like the old 700 ft.lbf for medium sized game ?
Maybe its the same number across a range of calibers? or a method to find that "magic number" across a range of calibers and hence use it as part of a calculation?Quote:

Hahaha, this might not be the book for you ;) Pretty much the whole thing is statistical analysis of various factors affecting ballistics. Initially looking at factors affecting precision and then accuracy. He isolates one factor, uses computer simulation to build the data sets, and then presents the results in WEZ graphs and tables.Quote:

Yup, he mentions it on p 173, 1000 ft.lbf @ sea level
The graph on p 11 confused me, coz the values don't work for either 308 175 SMK @ 2600 or 300 WM 230 Berger he uses in the rest of the book. Guess it is just an example. KE at 900 and TS at 1100
