    Magneto Speed V3

Bit of a basic review on the new V3.

I got sick of my standard optical chronys being light and wind fickle and generally a pain in the ass to set up and operate as intended.

I liked the idea of the new superchrono but they did not review that well by my reckoning.

However I heard a lot of good things about the Magneto speed V1 and V2. I started to look into them and noticed the new V3. Reviewed nicely so I was sold.
I ordered one from Sinclair after selling my CED2 which was one of the better optical ones I have owned.
I was pretty happy with cost and what eventually showed up.

Used it the first time this evening to work up a load for my .260 AI.
It honestly was incredibly simple and quick, to setup and use. On both my .260 and .223 barrels.

I did a partial ladder test and found a usable node. I drove home and loaded up a few more to confirm everything.
Not much more to say other than velocities were as predicted and the V3 did not miss a beat.
First is a string from the .260 and following that, one from the .223.

Pretty happy with this unit. Trouble free first time out and no light issues to ever worry about.
Highly recommended one for any serious reloader and shooter.
Best of all, I finally got the 130 swift to shoot in my barrel, after a lot of mucking around it shot mint😆

    what was the final price?

Any noticeable difference in POI with it on and off the barrel? Im guessing no as its on the suppressors

Do you shoot out the back of the truck like that? you must be short....

Awesome. I more or less gave up with the regular chronnys, farken hopeless. What was the trick with the swifts? I shot a stag up the Whitcombe couple weeks ago, 2" exit through the shoulder. Great pill.

The scroll buttons on the display unit look to be an improvement over the V1/V2.

Was $550 ish NZ iirc maybe a tad more.
No POI shift on my .260 but got a 1.5" vertical shift on my .223 barrel.

    I changed powder and seating.
First time I have ever had a major improvement changing powder to be fair.

I would have thouht that having something hanging off the end of your barrel would affect harmonics and therefore make load development a bit of a waste of time unless you intended to shoot with it on all the time?

My V2 version really affects accuracy & poi on thinner barrels, some more than others.

It doesn't affect accuracy at all on my big .375 barrels but poi shifts a little.

Definitely great cronies, way more consistent than ones relying on light.

Really useful for getting a more accurate velocity on final loads.

@R93, the CED you had, was that the infrared screen one or the basic version.

I'm interested to hear if anyone has experience with how consistent the results are from the infrared version of the CED m2 compared to magnetic type chronys

The idea is when you have a good load you chrony it, not use it to find a good load. Of course you will get accuracy variance with it strapped to the barrel. I use one and find it fantastic.

I agree but I never gave it a second thought when putting it on. As I was just working up to a safe and usable velocity.
However groups were sweet and POI on my .260 was bang on.
Confirmed it last night with my son shooting as well.
Only moved my .223 POI up 1.5" from zero but still grouped as good as it normally does.

Infared. Andrew bought it off me.
Great chronys and gave me the same velocities in my .223 as the V3 does, exactly. New load for my .260 so couldn't compare.
It caught a lot of wind though and no matter how careful I was, I would lose a few shots out of a string by reading errors.
Gotta pick your day with them.
It worked very well in the dark☺

Thanks for the review, I've been thinking about one of these for quite some time
    Anyone want a CED2
