My first F up

It didn't take long for me to make a balls up early on in my reloading career.
I have managed to get a primer stuck half way into a hornady shell, and primer is slightly skewed as well. Now not able to remove shell from shell holder as primer is blocking its exit.

What is the best way to remove the culprit without too much risk?

Also, while I am at it, what is the deal with Hornady brass, from sst factory amo? It seems to have a crimp or such around the primer pocket, which has caused more than a few primers to be either very stiff to get in, or they wont go at all, so I discard that shell.

Put some safety glasses on and whack it up through the full length die again

Take the stem out of a die and tap the primer out with it.

Stand on a box so you can see what you doing. :sick:

Stick to catching pilchers Pengy it's much safer! I have a finely ground file to knock em out thru the flash hole

If you are priming with your press just use your size die and push it out put safety glasses on as Ryan said but is safe I've done it a few times.
As for the crimp i have used my deburing tool which worked on the ones i needed to do.

+1 deprime w goggles. Some brass seems too have very tight primer pockets, or some times too shallow. Get a primer pocket uniformer or reamer and have at it. No need to bin the brass.

I don't know about you other fellahs but I for one am not buying it that this is Pengy's first ever fuck up. Nope, no way.

Hornady most likely has a military contract so the priming machines are set up to crimp the primers, once the crimp is cleaned out should have no more problems.

Viper, Happy and I are two of the most honest people you could ever meet. We can't help it if Pengy is short and prone to fucking up. Not our doing at all, we merely point it out from time to time.

Put some safety glass's on, screw in your full length die and gently push it out, easy as, I've deprimed plenty this way over the years & never had one go off. Biff the primer

Remove all live primers from hand prime, don saftey glasses, deprime with whatever you have or you could remove the stem from your die and give it a "tap" down the case to deprime.

wasn't Ernie the short arse one ?

Get hold of a case trimmer. Can't remember if it is the lyman or lee. Put the rod down the case and tap the primer out. Otherwise take the decapping pin out of your die and use it to tap the primer out. Be gentle.

Yup, should be able to remove case holder and case from the hand primer. May even be able to quietly pry the primer out from the bottom with something like a scriber.

I've de-primed quite a few live primers with sizing die, never had one go off.

Put the handle in a vice & tap it out with the stem out of your die, if you can take the shell holder & stuck case out of the hand primer you might be able to twist the primer out with some needle nose pliers?

Tip of a chainsaw file works well for most things if it's out of the press

Pengy what type of priming tool are you using?
Is there a way to disassemble the handprimer to pull the push-rod out from underneath?

I got the primer our easy as , by putting case in a vice and gently tapping through with de capping rod out of the die. Cheers all

Yup she's got her mums good looks. I've managed to keep mine. She didn't mention anything tome , how ever this time of year we quite often get strange people turning up. :D
