Thread: Need help identifying a set of dies

I need help identifying these dies which I recently purchased these on trade me. They were listed as Redding Type S Match dies # 38111, which I've come to recognize they are not. I haven't collected them yet , as the sellers out of the country. A bit pissed off about the false listing, and wondering, one, what dies they are, and two, if it's worth going through with the purchase. Thanks

I hope this doesn't sound like a daft question, but why are they not competition match dies?

I'm certainly no expert but I own a Redding competition die set for a 7mm-08 and a couple of stand alone Type S dies. Without being able to see all the engraving on the dies I wonder if you might have a Type S die set (Type S Bushing Full-Length sizing die and a Competition Micrometer Seating die) with an additional Body Die. A competition set would include three dies: a Competition Bushing Neck Sizing Die (with micrometer), a Body Die, and a Competition Seating Die (also with micrometer). In any case, if you've got the FL Type S die there, I'd be quite happy, but I'm not sure what you paid for it. The Type S dies don't come with a micrometer. I could have a look at home for what my neck dies and Type S are engraved with, though I'm heading away shortly for the weekend. If you're not interested in keeping them, I might be. Edit: I just Googled this and the internet said some Redding Type S die sets for .223 come with a body die, typically the Competition or 3-Die Sets, which are sold as a kit containing a Type S Bushing Neck Sizing Die, a Body Die, and a Competition Micrometer Seating Die.

They are a Redding Type S match set. The bit with the lugs just screws of. From the left the first is a neck sizing die that takes a bushing to set up how much you size. Middle is the seater and on the right is a body die that just sizes the case body but not the neck. Look just like my 7mm SAUM set but with the micrometre for seating as a bonus. The neck expander is in the plastic bag.

Cheers guys, that may settle that. Fairly new to this side of things and there was an unanswered question stating that they weren't what they were. When I looked at the images vs what what on reddings website those didn't have the collar. Appreciate the input from all. Paid 400 along with a 100x laupa brass, 50 odd norma and 300x projectiles. I have the same set, 38111 minus the Lee? quick change lugs on two of the dies (which just screw off the 7/8-14 threads of the dies): body die , competition bullet seating die, type s - bushing style neck sizing die. These are the codes engraved into the dies, respectively: 223 REM BODY OM, COMPETITION SERIES, 223 REM B/NK 09. The neck sizing die needs bushings to work as designed; Wilson and Redding bushings fit. Wilson are more flexible, having a slight taper in the neck sizing hole. Not all bushings are the size that is stamped on them. Neck bushing dies work best with neck turned brass. I can't tell you how well these dies work as I usually use Wilson dies or a Lee collet die.

Unanswered question on the auction made me suspicious. Looked at images and the absence of the locking collar acted as an anchor. Turns out I was wrong. Thank all for the help

Most probably a set of Redding Type S Match NECK dies.

Neck sizer with bushing
Competition seater with micro adjustment
Body die

And of course some Lee quick change adaptors that are removable.

An email to Redding might also clarify things...

Have a look in the 1st photo on the sizer its shows: B/NK whick means its a bushing type neck size only die.

Was very popular not very long ago - I still use several of these sets for different calibers.

Look like hornady lock n load quick change system sleeves not the Lee

I've never used any quick change systems.
