    Norma vs Lapua brass

I've been waiting for months for Lapua brass to get into the country for my .260, unfortunately it's taking forever and I'm sick of waiting.
I've found I can get Norma brass from a few shops instead.

Is Lapua brass that much better it's worth waiting for?

    Cheers
    Sam

Not sure but can you get your hands on some Nosler brass? Heard it's made by Lapua.

Norma is good brass but have heard Lapua is better, but if you can't get it Norma will do the job. Better than none.

I use both in my 6mm BR. The Norma brass is softer than Lapua and doesnt last as long but is cheaper and more readily available.
In my 338 Lapua mag I only use Lapua brass. Tried other brands (Hornady & Norma) and they just don't go the distance.

You can import brass (without a Police import permit) from Reloading International

Nosler is made by Norma, not Lapua.

Norma brass is usually accurately dimensioned but is slightly softer than Lapua brass and doesn't stand repeated warm loads as well

I went from Lapua to Nosler/Norma as it was easier to Ackleyise for me. (So softer)

I used to get between 7-10 firings but have changed my powder and load and already it seems to have improved the case life a little. Haven't shot a case enough to bin it yet so have no concrete data but have a couple around 7 firings that still have a tighter pocket than those with my old load. They also only require a slight shoulder bump.

    No body die used yet.
Anyone that reloads for an R8 or R93 will know how the weaker primary extraction requires case to be perfect for smooth operation, you do not get away with as much as a turn bolt.

It may not last as long as Lapua but Nosler/Norma brass is just as good to a point imo.

    Thanks all for the replies.
I managed to get some Lapua brass from Kiwi greg, so my quest to find a suitable replacement is no longer required.

Looks like Norma would've been a suitable alternative though.

i've gone thru this for 7-08

for my batches, the Norma brass was around 10gr lighter than the Lapua.

    Norma : 166-169gr
    Lapua : 178-179gr

for a given load, the Lapua gave around 30 fps faster speed.

    Lapua : 2625 fps
    Norma : 2595 fps

To put it another way 40.7gr of 2208 in the Lapua gives the same velocity as 41.0gr in the Norma cases

The Norma brass had noticeably thinner necks than the Lapua. Both quality brass, I suspect the Lapua would last a bit longer.

    Your mileage may vary
