I was thinking of the 16” bbl 308 with de-moduled suppressor which is lighter shorter well balanced and has similar recoil to the traditional full length 243. Not as flat shooting if course but hits harder with a bigger kill zone. So theres not as much need for a light calibre, I should have said.
Slightly relevant to your point, all other things being equal, it seems that .308 "Lite" rounds will produce less recoil than a .243. Makes the .308 more versatile and the .243 less attractive to my mind.
