Yeah. Follow the manuals. Start a bit lower. If its a .223 I would start with BM2, 2206 or CF223. BLC-2 is a cheaper alternative to CF223.
What powders have you got?
How about Benchmark? seems that was popular. Is it any good?
My understanding is that Bench Mark comes as BM1 & BM2.

Cheers man! Thanks
BM2 should go well. ADI powders are available and a good price.
BM2 and 64gr Serria Spire Points are a match made in heaven in my .223 AR15.
@JaydenMcN Get a good reloading manual it will be worth it's weight in gold.
Cheers
Pete
@JaydenMcN look up Belmont Ammunition. They have recenley started selling powders and have Action Rifle which is a St Marks military powder not previously released to the commercial market called 747. Powderhttp://belmontammo.co.nz/product-category/belmont-powder/
Decent prices and a burn rate that is 3% faster than Winchester 748. This powder was developed for 5.56 NATO so is perfect for the 223 Rem. Not much in the way of data so just take W748 and - 3% Hodgdon Reloading | Home
Very high load density and you know you will have a reliable source.
This is the biggest issue in NZ for relaoders, sourcing powders. best bet would be these guys followed by ADI.
Mate had a large quantity of 747 that he used in a range of cartridges, not just 223. An excellent powder. Also has a lower flame temp so in theory a little kinder on throats although others theorise that ball powder is "abrassive". Have always had excellent results with 760. Belmont's price per can is vg. I notice some of the sports shops now advertising it - but not at the Belmont price :omg:
BM2 is $120 a kilo if I get it via workshop innovations, a bit cheaper again though my club, 2208 should be about the same.
I see you are in "HUTT VALLEY" so you can buy it via Workshop Innovations - sales@workshopinnovation.co.nz then you pick it up from island bay. "Wellington Customers - we can arrange for you to collect directly from our supplier"
What about adi 2206 with the 60gr noslers?
sorta starting at 23gr?
with 2206h i started at 23.5 and settled on 25.2 slightly compressed load but accurate!
Yeah I did a bit of shooting today with my first loads one at 23.5 one at 24.5 and one at 25.2. And 25.2 won by a long shot..
When guys talk about "2206" these days, many of them actually mean the current 2206H which is slightly slower burning. 2206 hasn't been available for a while far as I know.
Be careful you check what you're actually getting.
I'm finishing off the last of my old 2206 in one of my .223s. I then have the choice of a big batch of 747 or 5lbs of N201 I was given.
If you are looking at Americans load data, be sure to look at the ADI powder equivalent chart on the ADI website. You may find that the ADI equivalent of Hodgon or IMR is a heck of a lot easier to find in NZ.
Most folk appear to go for ADI Benchmark 2 as their starting powder for 223, this is the same as Hodgons Benchmark. ADI Benchmark 1 is not the same.
Id either try ADI Benchmark 2 or seeings as you are shooting slightly heavier projectiles, 2208 which is the same as Varget.
Yeah cheers, I've settled on 24.2gr of adi 2206. I'm sure it's not the 2206h version. But it's very accurate and I'll probably go to bm2
barrel twist rate will also have an affect on what results you get and what gr projectile you will get good results from
in my 223 is 1 in12 twist and i started with the same projectiles and and adi 2206h powder and i didn,t get the results i was after so ended up using sierra 55gr game kings and BM2 powder gives consistent tight groups at around 3000 fps. sierra projectiles are not so dear to buy terminal performance is not far behind the nosler partitions:thumbsup:
