    Powder advice

    Hi all,

I have just purchased some reloading kit and have been researching what powder to use.

    I have a .270WSM X-bolt with a 20" barrel and a 7mm08Rem Remington 700 with a 19 inch barrel. Both use the same Gunworks Magnum suppressor.

I see the recommendations on the ADI website but I wanted to get some thoughts. Preferably I'd like to use AR2209 in both. But should I be using AR2208 in the 7mm08 and 2213SC in the WSM?

    Any advice is appreciated.

What bullets are you wanting to send out of them?

I have a couple boxes of .270 150gr Nosler BST and sample packs of 7mm 140gr and 150gr Nosler BST, and .270 140gr Hornady SST and 140gr Berger VLD
However, considering the price of the Nosler projectiles I probably should have gone with 140gr SST for the 7mm and left the Noslers with the WSM.

I have never loaded a 270WSM but 2208 works well in the 7-08 with 120 and 140 guns. and I would say you need a slower powder in the 270WSM like 2213 or 2217

With the 270wsm used to use hodgdons retumbo(AR 2225 equivalent) with the 150gr bullets.. Also used plain ole IMR 4831 with the 130-140gr projectiles.. This was with a 24inch barrel.

    Norma brass
    70gr 2225
Federal Gold medal match magnum primer
    150 VLD

Goes pretty good in my finnlight gives about 3100fps (24'' barrel) and kills stuff dead near and far

150 LRAB goes good too but hard buggers to find

Thanks for the replies. So I've figured I'll need to get a separate one for each. 2208 or 2209 for the 7mm08 and 2217 or 2225 for the 270wsm.

Should I be leaning towards a faster burning powder, or does it not matter in the end? Just use the necessary amount for the given powder.

    I run 2209 in 7mm08, 270wsm and 300 wsm no probs.
2209 is a little bulky in the 08 case with most max loads with each bullet weight being compressed loads.
Another one you could look at is H414, it has a similar burn rate as 2209 but fits in the case alot better. I'm using this now in the 7mm08 with good results and will see how it goes in the wsm at some stage.
