im loading for my 7mm rem mag, im using AR2225 and im finding its leaving a lot of sooty shit in the barrel after each shot. i have also used this powder for my 270wsm and it had the same sooty shit left behind. are there any cleaner burning powders i could use for my magnum so i dont need to clean after every shot? or is there another way of getting a cleaner burn from the 2225? iv only ever used ADI powders.

Using magnum primers?
Use a different powder. I used 2209 in my 30-338 mag which is the 7mm mag case. It never left crap in the barrel.
Why do you care? Does it not shoot well?

The way I understand, 2213sc is ok for magnums cartridge with small capacity such the WSM things, 2217 and 25 are recommend to "big" magnum cartridges(please understand with high load capacity), also, yhey are recommended for different projectiles weigh with some exception and personal preferences such as "faster" burn rate powder "good" with lighter projectiles, slow burn rates with heavier projectiles.
As also mentioned here, primers can and will play a big part in the process, select it wisely

Why are you cleaning it every shot, is it shooting ok ?
How much 2225 are you putting in ?
Do you have a starting load or near max, what weight projectile ?
The Adi powders generally are very clean burning compared to others.
I have found VV N570 to be pretty dirty compared to 2225, ball powders are generally worse still.
Without knowing the load I would say that there is too much powder and it isn't to be burning completely.
I never used 2225 in my 270wsm but am I the 7mm version. 2213sc was very clean

2225 should only be used with 140 grain and heavier projectiles in 7mm rem mag. Sooty residue is due to incomplete combustion and is an indicator of less than optimum load development. What is the barrel length?
righto ill try answer a few questions, when i was testing some starting loads with 2225 every single shot is leaving the barrel looking like a chimney, hence im cleaning it after every shot so its nice and clean again because i dont hunt with a barrel full of soot. im shooting 154gr ssts from my 26inch barrel. it was also doing this when i was loading for my 270wsm.
Im using Retumbo (which I think is the same powder) in my 6.5SAUM with 140gn proj and mag primers and not having any issues like this
maybe im just a bit retarded and doing it all wrong.

Can you say what your load is related to the ADI book? Don't need to tell how much you charging but just if it is above maximum or bellow. My question is because my rifle(a Tikka T3 lite) has the accuracy load within 0.5 grains from the maximum recommended in the book, anything above that the grouping goes "wide" and pressure signs appear, such as bolt marks and stick bolt.Quote:

I think you are at near max now.73 grains is a compressed load so you should be getting a clean burn. Hornady crimp their sst bullets at the Cannelure , this insures that powder is ignited before the primer pushes the bullet into the rifling causing initial lower pressure and then a barrel obstruction. I would change primers and moderately crimp . I would drop the powder charge back about 3 grains and work up checking for pressure increases as you go. Something is not right with a sooty barrel but with a good group you have a puzzle alright. You could always do as sneeze suggests and stop looking down the bore.
I use 2225 with 180 H8unting VLD's and don't have any trouble with over fouling. Perhaps using too light of a bullet and powder not burning efficiently could be the problem. I have always used 2213sc with lighter bullets and got great accuracy from it.Quote:

I'm using ADI2225 with 154gr sst, the same magnum federal primers and almost the same charge in the same chambering.
I have never looked down the tube between shots and just clean up after a blast so i can't say weather mine burns clean.
If you're not having any issues with accuracy and they are moving along at the desired speed I wouldn't worry about it.
"Black shit" as you say, is easy to clean and it doesn't harm anything,
