Looking at a 308 and Im told it can very occasionally sticks / fails to extract on a hot load. I dont know what "hot" means yet (ive asked) but I cant think of anything but that its too hot? Would excess headspace cause it? Im not aware it would.

Look at who is trying to sell it to you.
Generally hot load means stiff to open bolt.
If its failing to extract factory ammo there is probably some issue, perhaps a damaged extractor from really hot loads.

"Hot load" refers to hand-loads that are running close to the limits of the rifle. Factory ammo shouldn't have a problem as it's loaded more conservatively. A sticky bolt/problems extracting is a sign of high pressure and generally means your ammunition is running a little too close to the rifle's limits.

Your first problem is that you're considering a 308 haha
does the guy who is trying to sell you the gun reload? I'm far from an expert but if he's loading them right up and firing a few rounds through it in the same session I have seen them stick in a mates gun.

Is it a Savage ? They can have stiff bolt problems without pressure signs. . .
That is that its heating up a hell of a lot. As been said if you stick to factory or if you load them up yourself stay a gn or two under the recommended top load ans you should be fineQuote:

What brand is it? Iv loaded Sakos all the way up to stupid in a ladder and never ever had even one fail to extract and or eject.

It will be hand loaded but I dont plan to go above the upper safe limit...I am using 45gr now and getting very good results in a club gun at 1000 so its a q of tuning the load for a "new" gun for me and not being silly.Quote:

its an omark target gun, rep is they are very strong.
I know nothing of an Omark other than its rep as an accurate strong target rifle.
But something must be worn or damaged to not extract/eject.
I know there people on here with omarks maybe they would know.

So you don't need to run it hard, it's extremely accurate got approx 1.5" group at 800 ish with it, with FMJ Lapua.
It has about a 30" barrel that has got fine turning marks on it, looks as rough as, but man it can shoot :thumbsup:
