    QuickLoad?

Anyone tell me how fast a 125g sst will be going in my suppressed 16in barrel in .308 with 38g of 2206h and a coal of 2.75? I’m im looking to get around 2200 as a light load for my boy to shoot and I can use for bush hunting Sika mostly. Thanks

It tells me 2211 fps at just 28,722 psi pressure, with only 79.4% powder burn in that barrel length, so 20% of the powder will be burning after it exits the barrel, might pay to use a Stainless first baffle if you're using a DPT.

In comparison, if you used 30.5gr of IMR 4198, it would be the same 2217 fps but the powder burn would be 94.25% in the 16" barrel. And i think this has something to do with the better accuracy 4198 gives for reduced loads over 2206H.

Fired case capacity in grains of water? and the actual length of a 125sst? And I can sort the data when I'm home. Also look up Gordon's reloading? It's a free app for your computer, it does what quickload does.

Fill the case with water then weigh how much it held?

Yes, but for what you're loading its doesn't really matter, working with the standard H20 capacity in QL will be quite fine, its not like you're loading on the ragged edge of pressure.

I was going to post up a similar thread, hope the OP doesn't mind me jumping on here.
@GWH could you run this please?
    .270 Winchester, 145gr ELD-X, 59.5gr AR2213sc, 22inch barrel suppressed, 3.330 COAL.

@mawzer308 Too hot for my tastes, looks like about 3050fps with pressure at 68,000psi, bit will depend on case capacity etc but not much margin for error

Cheers mate that's interesting, according to the Hornady load data, I'm .5gr under max. Have validated drops and it worked out to be 2940ish fps. No adverse pressure either.

@mawzer308 Just did it on Gordons reloading tool and got 2944fps with 60474 PSI pressure.
It also tells me that if you use 58.95 grains it will give you an accuracy node.

Cheers John, that is pretty spot on with my validation, also had great accuracy at 59grs too!

H4198 is exactly the same as 2207 mate. IMR 4198 has a different burn rate.

Not any more ADI makes all three been verified by a couple of guys shooting all three powders in .44 mag revolvers at HMS matches
same load same bullet same velocity, It is an excellent powder for reduced loads and cast bullets.

My understanding was IMR powders are made by General Dynamics in Canada. Has this now changed?

Hodgdon owns the IMR label only.
I read somewhere that the General Dynamic plant in Canada for the IMR recipes would be unable to operate in the USA due to safety issues in producing that type of powder??

Interestingly it is a total cock in QL with different characteristics for all of the 3 powders. Not the only ADI/Hodgdon powder that QL does that with.
