R17 or N550 for long range

With the current powder supply situation I'm having to get to the back of the powder shelf to feed my beasts.

So, has anybody tried either of these for long range purposes where a low ES and SD are required?? Or know of any references I could study up on ??

Well thats a bit of a loaded question @Russian 22 but let me answer by saying I want an ES closer to 10 than 20 fps . . . .

Use RL17 in 284 and it goes real good with 150- 162 gn high bc 7mm pills. ES ok, Less than 20 but spread in es can be as much about brass, neck tension and reload skills as powder

I use 560 in 6.5-06, and shoot over a km with it no dramas, good es etc, different powder but indication of the 500 series

I don't know about the SD but I use both N550 and R17 a lot and both are fine out to the 500 yards that I shoot.

N550 is great in .243 and my 300saum. I use R17 in my 300saum too - getting a comfortable 3k from 20" barrel (168grn) and holds good accuracy to the 300 yards Ive tried it on paper and 500 yards on skin. N550 works well with 150 grn in it hurling them at 3150 with good accuracy.

And I use R17 with 140 grn in 7-08 and getting a comfortable 2.8k from 18" and holding good accuracy.

Another powder I use a lot is H100V and that works well in .243 too and in the 7mmsaum I had. I tested that for SD in the .243 and it was good.

Im down to using whatever powder I have and these are the 3 I have a supply of on hand (plus R26. I have R26 .
