    Redding Trimmer

Hi, I have an old Redding trimmer and having problems with it not trimming square, leaving the end of the case wavey. Has anyone experienced this before have I set it up wrong? Possible because it's old it may be worn with excessive movement.
Any help would be appreciated before I give up and buy a new Hornady or Wilson trimmer.

    Thanks Sam

Make sure the blade is exactly square behind the guide and the guide is the correct size. Also, these are designed to trim resized cases.

Is your case firmly fixed in the collet.

Do you have the right sized pilot, i have two of these, and it sounds like, you have a pilot. Not matched to bore size of the brass.

Do you find the Wilson trimmer fiddly at all with the case specific holders that you have to rap the case and out of each time? Or is it a non-issue?

I have the same trimmer and was getting similar wobble when starting to use it about 10 years ago. I went and ordered a new cutting head for it and has been mint ever since. Seems the original cutting head was old and blunt.

If yours is as old as you suggest, then a new cutting head would be a quick and cheap remedy to try. Also agree that you need to make sure you use the right size pilot for them.

The Lathe won't can't really be worn out, but the trimming head can be.

This is the part I am talking about that can be replaced:

It's a titanium nitride replacement trimming head. You can also get it with a replacement shaft as well for not much more if you feel the shaft is out of alignment.
