When I bought some reloder 25 a few weeks ago from HNF they'd been told that they would likely never see Alliant Powders again...

Just from my reading of internet comments it seems nothing is being currently supplied to the USA market either. If that's the true situation the chances of NZ seeing any are extremely low. Shooters in the USA are scouring the barrel and turning up the odd, almost forgotten container here and there.
I'm hoping supplies of Alliant powders does resume again but think that is still a few years away.

I also saw a couple of stores with RL powders on their shelves last week as well as big jugs of 2206H.

There’s still a bit around if you look for it. Of course the most popular/newer ones like 26,23 & 17 are long gone. I learnt my lesson in the Obama election years ago, supply of everything just dried up. So carry enough stuff to get thru a 2-3 year “drought”. I guess the war in Ukraine & Gaza are soaking up huge amounts of propellant & capacity to produce more can’t be expanded quickly or significantly

Any reason for alliant not being shipped anymore? US export regulations?

Yep, soon after I started reloading there were droughts of one sort or another. As a consequence for perhaps 25 years now im constantly got one eye open for a bargain. Always ensure I have 2-4 years supply.

But I predominantly hunt, so my needs are not great.

The US is the biggest consumer. They are not going to bother exporting it (and going through all the BS that doing so involves) when they can barely get enough to satisfy their domestic market.

A lot of Alliant powders are made in Sweden by Bofors. The vast majority of their production is still being dedicated higher priority customers. It's military/defence 1st, commercial manufacturers 2nd, with reloaders a distant and insignificant 3rd. Then there's the problem of getting it out of Europe - too little availability, too much red tape, and a lack of ways to transport it economically.

When the likes of Hornady can't get enough of the right powders for their flagship line of ammunition and cartridges, what hope do we have?

ADI, really, it is our only hope. Then, estate lots once that runs out........ I am sure in a few years someone will break open their stash of Re 25 or whatever, expect to pay 1.5k a lb, or something as equally preposterous, the rich, they will have no issue buying it at that price.

There is no need to write any reloading laws, we will all be priced out of it soon enough anyway. My two cents, get it while the getting is good
