Quite neat to see people actually testing ideas rather than repeating what they heard.
Once the barrel has been shortened then add length with sound moderator...done properly the rifle should be longer and out of balance than the original.

Yes but if your intention was to run a suppressor from the start regardless then by shortening the barrel you are reducing the over all length and improving the balance over a suppressed standard length barrel.Quote:

short barrels make rifles very handy, my last barrel cost me a grand and is only 13 inches long.
Rifle barrels the only time a guy gets to show off that his is shorter than yours. :ORLY:
I remember hearing that he also works up loads for the short barreled .308 using a faster burning powders than you would normally use. Possibly pistol powders, but I cannot remember the exact details.Quote:

That's a great resource! Thank you for posting! Hopefully they'll drift into larger cartridges in the future. I feel like there's a real gap in knowledge relating to larger (IE 308 range) cartridges in short barrels. I know the prevailing belief is that they need longer barrels, but it would be good to see it proven, or solutions for getting them to shoot well in shorter barrels (IE faster powders etc). There's obviously a cost for every gain, but sometimes it's well worth it and not all that high :PQuote:
