    Short barreled 284 win, powder?

I think a few of you have shorter barreled 284's now, what powders are you using with what weight bullets?

I know that RL17 goes well, but there is currently none about, so what else are you using, particually with 150/162gr bullets.

Im just starting to play with a 17" 284.

I've heard good things about that Hybrid 1000v (or whatever) from a few people... maybe AR2209?

I run 2209 in my 22.5" 284win which goes really well and very accurate with 150 NBT doing 2970.

Was hoping to get to 2750 with 7828ssc and amax in my 17" 284, but I got excess pressure at the start of my ladder at just overy 2700.

Will try the 7828 again backed off .5-1gr and see if it's accurate and will also try 2209.

QL shows the 7828 to give best velocity from all I run thru it.

I just look for good accuracy and not worry to much about speed I think.

    Using 2209, 20 in barrel 154SST's 2850 fps and 140ABs 2900+.
Tried 2213sc but velocity not as good as 2209.
Am about to play round with some RL19 & 150gn LRAbs and 160 gn TMKs.

My barrel is 21 inches from the action. I use 53.5g off 2209 and the 162 Amax is going 2750f/sec, it is extremely accurate, for a hunting rifle.

Thanks guys, i have plenty of 2209, and as said it goes very well in my longer 284, so will look to stay with it for the 17", focus on the accuracy and not speed.

Hey @craigc what overall length are you at? I have mine seated and throated for 3.180" so have heaps of powder capacity compared to saami specs.

Also are you in Win or Lapua brass?

That sounds good. I was wanting to try the 150gn Sciroccos with the 2209. I have a 22" barrel so that gives me an idea of possible speed.
