@Lambie that could be the difference. If the powder hasn't fully combusted at muzzle exit the gases can upset the bullet. Suppressors can help strip these gases away from the bullet. I've pondered 2208 for lower muzzle pressure, but never tested it.

Magnetite, you could well be right, the rifle hasn't been re-crowned so there could be imperfection there. That might be the next step, I'm not a fan of suppressors, so won't go there. But I did get the gorse out of my pocket and brought some new brass so that will give me my "bench mark", so we'll see were we end up.
