    Targex .224 69gr

    Hi all
I'm looking to specifically run the Targex 69gr out of my new Model 7 .223 1:9 twist. There seems to be info scattered around this forum so I thought I would make a thread and gather it all together.
It seems that 2206H is the prefered powder?
How do these perform on Fallow/Sika/Reds?

    Any feedback welcomed.

I use them with 2208 in my tikka, excellent performance on fallow, great projectile and Bryn is great to deal with.

I’m sure he’s aware a 22 performs if you’re close enough. He’s simply asking if the 69 targex goes ok. Sounds like a fair question to me.

2206H is ok for 223, but I prefer BM2 - it meters much better, and drives pretty much everything I shoot out of the 223 : 55 & 62s for service rifle, 65 game king for hunting and 69 tmk for gongs

    I have a 9 twist model 7 223, it has been shortened by 2 inches to 18"

It shoots 55gr bullets insanely well, like 1.5-2" groups at 400 yards. However it doesnt shoot anything heavier very well, i tried the 69gr TMK's and Targex bullets, prob ok for minute of deer to 200 yards, but the groups were pretty ordinary from the 9 twist model 7. But im fussy and was looking to the one bullet to do everything from LR rabbits to deer.

Ive stayed with the 55gr SGK's which it loves, and brought a 8 twist T3 Superlight to shoot 75gr eldms.

Man with the inside knowledge. How true for the 65gr Sierra.

A friend has a savage 1:9 that I loaded some up for. Excellent at 100 yds but past 250 couldn't hit an a4 piece of paper. A bit of research showed that as they slowed the gyroscopic stability became marginal. Might have been rifle specific but I think 1:8 was the optimal twist suggested

I have a 9 twist model 7. 25.3 grns 2206H, magazine length, 69grn Targex. Holds .5 MOA out to 500 yards (on a still day).

They are a good bullet on deer out to the 300 yards Ive used them.

A looser chambered Savage lightweight is similar with the Targex but consumers a little bit more 2206H.

Both have 20" barrels and the velocity is 3K although with Bryn's stated bc the M7 range card is set for 2950.

@Tahr thanks for that, I will take note of that load data its just what I was looking for. Realistically the max range I will be using this rifle is 200m.
@GWHI remember your post from a while back, sure is crazy accurate and strange that it wont shoot heavier than 55grs. But with that sort of accuracy anywhere in the eye will do...

Thanks to everyone else, I will keep note of what I load up in my Remington and make further posts once I've shot it a bit and maybe have a deer on the ground too.

Great thread, which I'll keep an eye on.

I'm about to start loading for the .223, mainly as a fallow/goat/roo rifle. Has a 1:8 twist. I'll be starting with AR2206H as I have lots on hand for the .308 win. I've basically been trying to work out which would be best for my application, the 65gr Serria Gameking or the Targex 69gr...?

I guess the classic approach of seeing what shoots the best in rifle.....

Hey Dama Dama, Good luck with your new set up and you've made a great point, like you my other rifle is a 308 which I load using 2206H so another great reason to use this powder for the 223.

Hey good luck to you too @Timmay
A very versatile powder is 2206H
I suspect it will be a while before i get anything done but I will post any results relating to the 69gr bullet on this thread.
