Testing the new 6.5 143gn ELD-X

Sent last week chasing Sika stags with my 6.5x284 and the 143gn ELD-Xs. Managed two good sized animals and recovered 1 x bullet, the bullet in the photo ended up weighting 90gns lost 53gns when breaking a shoulder bone then traveling down through lungs liver and came to rest under the skin on otherside. Was a up hill shot 25deg and 318mtrs then needed a second round through the neck after running 20mtrs towards us. The second stag was at 258mtr downhill moving away from us, round went in high behind shoulder and ended up somewhere inside, ran 50 mtrs before dropping. Overall pretty happy with their performance, thou l had great success with the old A-Max's.Attachment 48840

Great info! I am just in the process of fine tuning these in my 6.5-284 initial group testing was very good, just need to sort drop data at distance. What speed were you getting from your gun with these bullets?

Only have a 26'' barrel - 2775fps

That seems to have held together very well for hitting bone up closeish.
I wonder how they will perform further out on a no bone or just a rib shot.

They seem to be pretty soft in the nose when seating, firmly compressed loads create sizable rings on the projectile, just like the Amax :)

Good honest review. I know animals run away, but I personally wouldn't continue with a projectile after seeing 2 animals in succession run after solid hits. Just my humble opinion.

Just started load development for a .264 Win Mag, was going to look at the ELD-X, but waiting for field results to come in before I go there, looks good with 140gn Interlock at 3000fps and 130gn Berger at 3250fps as a dual load at the mo, will play with the 140 Berger and 130 Sirocco next week, aiming for 3200fps and 3300fps, based on progress at the mo it should be easy and problem free to get, .264 Mag might be a bit fast for the Amax replacement inside 300yds, but might be useful past there if it behaves like the Amax it replaces (other than the supposed melty tip!)
