Titegroup for various subsonic loads?

I’m looking to do some loading for various subsonic cartridges (308, 44 mag etc), and it seems like most of the preferred subsonic powders aren’t in stock. Previously I’ve used Trailboss, but it’s out of stock everywhere.

What is in stock is Titegroup, and on the face of it, it seems suitable because it’s a fast burning powder that isn’t position sensitive.

Aside from being very easy to double charge and very limited load data, is there any reason not to use it?

If you don’t like Titegroup, what powder would you suggest that’s currently in stock in South Island NZ?

What weight of projectiles are you using? That can influence factors - lighter projectiles, generally easier to use pistol/shotgun powders, heavier projectiles, can get away with the faster rifle powders.

If you want to give 2219 or 2207 a go, I can help you out with a bit to try, whatever quantity you like at whatever the current going rate per kg is at Gunworks, they are both powders I use regularly, so I tend to keep a kg bottle on hand...

Also, I could spare a 1/2lb tin of Nobel No.78, a fast shotgun powder. I picked some tins of it up a little while ago after my AS50n supply ran low, and given I'm only loading 2-8gn per cartridge, I've got more than enough to last awhile - say $40 if you want it?

I use Titegroup in 38spl and subsonic 223.
Its not position sensitive so is pretty safe and reliable, just take a lot of care when loading to not double charge.

In 38spl, using my own soft cast 125gr projectiles, it's only costing me a primer and tiny amount of powder (like 3.4gr) it costs me 23c a round.

The subsonic 223 is great for dealing with possums and rabbits around camp

Thank you @bjp - I'd completely forgotten about equivalent powders. I've got some 2207 so will give that a try.

Is it very position sensitive in high volume cases with low powder weights?

Good to hear of people using it. It seems like it would work, so lack of published data has me wondering. One of the purposes for a sub load is exactly that - a small game load that doesn't make a ton of noise.

I use 11gr pushing a 405gr cast bullet in my 45-70 for ~1000fps. Don't seem to have any problems with all the empty space and is very economical.

My thinking was with 2207 you want 60%+ case fill, I haven't tried it with less, so more reduced loads for 308 than subsonic. But then I saw that they are showing H322 (2219) for subsonic loads for 308 on Hodgdon reloading website, I see no reason why you couldn't use 2207/H4198 for the same thing. Its just a bit faster. I wouldn't use it for reduced loads without checking pressures, as it'll start to get up there, but you'd be miles away from peak pressures with sub loads. Pressures will be only slightly higher than H322/2219.

I haven't tried it myself, as I've alway had some shotgun powder on hand for sub loads.

I was oringally thinking might work well for the 44 mag, depending on projectile weight.

11 gr of titegroup?

Its an efficient powder, these are the loads I use in my 38spl and 223.
A tub loads a LOT of ammunition

Unique or titegroup are recognized for not being position sensitive . i haven't used them but think this just means it shouldn't blow the gun up.
Im sure they will shoot better with a dacron filler holding them down still. Trailboss is the all time great and safe but sometimes not so accurate or so i have heard. Shoots well for me.
Fast pistol powders (2205 etc) with a filler have been my main stay for sub loads
