I have a 1:11 twist which I have just confirmed stabilizes 190 sub-x right down to 630fps. Its factory length maybe 22-24".
My question is will cutting the barrel to 15" change the stabilization? Target speed will remain the same e.g 1000fps.
Would be a shame to cut the barrel for a specific reason, then it doesn't actually do what I cut it down for...

I do know it will be HARDER to keep it down at that speed with shorter barrel.......and harder to get speed down to begin with....

in the wee 7.62x39mm I was down to below 5grns trail boss to get quiet load with 151grn projectile...other folks were using 7-8grns for same effect...my barrel was rather short.
once you have reached complete burn and projectile has stopped speeding up..it slows down......that happens by about 13-14-15 inches from what I can gather depending on load. the longerthe barrel past that point the slower it will go...
No problem, barrel length has very little if any effect on stability Prime example is the ,38/.357 mag S&W barrels are 1:18 3/4" twist they will stabiliseQuote:

If you are stabilised at 630fps it won't change if your shortened barrel maintains that velocity, Pays to work at the upper end of velocity
with sub loads they have very little shock power and need to expand as much as possible.
