    useing powder equvelent charts

    so I picked up a 44 magnum a few months ago with a pack of factory ammo for brass and have shot them all so ready to load some up
    I have some 240gn bullets and some adi ap100 powder I use in my 357 and 38 spl loads id rather not buy more powder for 44 as its just another expense and I don't give a crap about speeds etc for just a plinking gun adi dose not list ap100 as a powder for 44 however adi lists IMR SR 4756 as an equivalent and there is plenty of data for SR 4756 in 44 mag

    so how do I go about using that info to make a safe plinking load?

    Maybe start a couple grains less and work up.
    I have never found powders listed as equivalents to perform the same in rifles to be fair. Close enough not to worry about overloading if caution is observed tho.

    Also different charts plot the same powders in different rankings for speed, as long as you are in the same range start low and work up as per normal.

    well IMR list 13.3gn of SR4756 as a max load but the min column is blank so what you think try 10.5gn start?

    Should be sweet starting there.
    Go even lower if you're concerned.

    @rambo-6mmrem

    Here's what the Aussies load using AP100 in their 44mags.

    I used this info off that site
    "Barry Wilmot's reloading book lists some 44 Mag AP100 loads -
    with 200 gr bullet, 14.5 to 15.5 (max.) of AP100 for 1300 to 1400 fps.
    with 240 gr bullet, 12.8 to 14.0 (max) of AP100 for 1150 to 1250 fps."

    I don't know who Barry Wilmot is never heard of him.... however after reading the powder equivalents chart and the SR4756 data they seem to be about where they should be so I loaded up 3 test loads of each 12.8gn, 13.3gn, 13.8gn, 14.0gn) ap100 obviously the bullet is a speer 240gn swc (lead)
