    17hmr suppressor

Looking at picking up a 17hmr, is there any benefit/negative to using a centrefire suppressor on a 17? I have a 30cal one already or is it better to grab a dedicated rimfire one?

I run a DPT overbarrel centrefire with 17cal baffles and its great, just the sonic crack which is actually very good at disorientating the prey. Id think 30 cal baffles will still leave some sound but worth a try.

I run a DPT 17HMR suppressor. After talking with the DPT guys a few years ago now.
The information was good and it makes a great difference.
I've come back carrying the pick ups and the comment was I did hear you.
Yet I think that's a sound thing, thats muffled by many factors.
But I do recommend it and it's far more quieter than the DPT 22mag/17hmr.
It's bigger but I am used to it. The other day I was sighting in a change over to the 223 and another was sighting in his 223 and I said thats very loud to which he said I am using my 308 suppressor on the 223 and no problem telling something was different.
That opening matters on your ears.
    In my opinion.

I have a DPT 17HMR forward can and it is very quiet. I have shot a few deer with it. Very different to the 223.

    Hey guys,

Just reading this thread now, so are some people running a muzzle forward FPR specific to 17/22 and then others running a standard over barrel dpt and then using the smaller baffles from a dpt to reduce it back down to rimfire size? Does that mean the bigger overbarrel dpt will be lots quieter ? Or is it just going to sound the same as your only trapping the gas bang and there’s still the same projectile crack ?

Or does a smaller 17hmr muzzle forward suppressors still leave something that the overbarrel is able to capture in its larger volume?

Use a DPT centerfire over barrel off my .223, have found them better than rimfire versions.

I use a braveheart hush power and it's about as quiet as a high velocity .22lr with a cheap suppressor so I'm happy with it.
It was $100 in the used box at gun city, I talked them down as it was seized, but a bit of heat and resting the base in a big socket in the vice it popped right open and cleaned up nicely.

I'm thinking if you put in first baffle of smaller size, and end cap of smaller size you should quiet things down early as much. I know my 222 is louder with 30 calibre baffles even with correct ss blast baffle first up...I'm contemplating running it up last before the end cap..anyone tried this???results???

I have just got a hmr and brought a dpt 22mg/17hmr muzzle forward supp. Hardly noticeable difference between that and mate running full overbarrel dpt and half the price.

Regularly shoot possums off a bush face behind my house with 17HMR, neighbors tell me the difference between the rimfire suppressor and my centerfire suppressor which I now use is very distinctive.

i forgot to put my suppressor on a while back when shooting a possum near the house. When I squeezed the trigger I thought it had blown up in my face or something, fark i didn't realise what had happened lol

I run a gunworks one and it's a drastic improvement, really good haha
If i could have a full time job shooting pests i'm up for over time.
