Pull a 22 projectile. Pack a bit of tissue for a wad, then a few 7 shot pellets, then more tissue to hold it in. I've shot rats at close range with that combo.
Overkill is still dead.
I have/had a problem with birds coming into a shed that was a hay shed , that I have converted to a car shed. I was using birdshot till I couldnt get hold of it anymore.
I brought a low powered slug gun and tested it on some tin to make sure it doesnt penetrate , so I knew I wasnt going to be putting holes in my shed.
It was good and now I destroy any bird who ventures into it.
I use open sights as the range is pretty close.
either way, anybody in chch want some pm me
I've got some you can have to test, Hawkes bay based too.
Have a pkt, 25 years old, when the weather clears will shoot a few for "patterning" at 4-5 metres, curiosity has the better of me.
once took a shot at a big californi quail in a mates market garden about 20 feet away with .22 birdshot could almost taste the bugger nah sausages instead did not even flinch - useless
Somewhere I have a few rounds of .22 birdshot that had the pellets in a projectile made of wood, I remember splitting one open to have a look...they belonged to my father who died about 58 years ago and I have no idea how long he had had them...I will have to have a look around and find them, that is if the borer hasn't got to them.
I have used them with some success against swallows in the shed up to 6-7 metres. Most useful for dispatching sleeping possums in building eaves and the like whereby the shot doesn't exit the head to pass through the building itself.
Just fired birdshot at 5 meters, pellets went thru 5 layers of corrugated cardboard, 80% of pellets inside 250mm circle. Will find a better target material and retest.
why are we all still talking about this bloody useless ammo
