Can i eat this?

Hi all, as I'm sure many of you do I've got a dog and generally feed her raw food however they are getting more and more pricey so I'm planning on making my own through goats, possums, rabbits and hares. I know to check an animals liver but I don't know what I'm really looking at (besides what it should look like) and don't want to feed my dog anything with diseases unknowingly. Are there any resources that anyone has that could help with this or any pointers on the subject.
Following that if anyone needs any previously stated pests removed from their property in the Waikato area please feel free to message me and I would be happy work out an arrangement.

very generally avoid ones that are
1) excessively skinny
2) have spots lesions in lungs liver heart or meat ( but be carefull that the strange little bit you are looking at is not just a gland and quite safe )
3) lungs not a healthy colour ( pale not a nice pink )or stuck to ribs
4)signs of scouring - basically a really shitty arse

Barry the Hunter is on to it, follows those four points and you won't go wrong.

Possum is brilliant dog food. Fat does are best, and easier to skin than the bucks.

To be honest, mates got a 9hp fish berleyer, so I was planning on mincing everything up with that, freezing it in tubs, and then band sawing them into meal sized blocks. Obviously, I would still be breaking down large bones into dog bones and gutting the animals but keeping organs hell, even keeping the good meat cuts for food.

Great idea!

I mince venison off cuts and freeze those for the dog, once I've processed the human food. I don't mince possum or rabbit, but do cut it up into wee bits and freeze sometimes.

Don't feed too much liver to dogs. Always mix a bit with other meat.

I made the mistake out of ignorance and poisoned them with too much Vitamin D, resulting in skeletal problems later in life. Learned of the mistake many years later.

good point Nakihunter I do remember being told that when we used old cows for dog tucker - possum is really great dog food - but cut the claws off - when I bred ridgebacks I had a little to do with show people - to get a shine on their dog for show they gave the dog a little corn oil in milk came out in the coat - might be good for those breeds like vizla and GSP keep the cold away a bit
