Here comes the poison on those Doc and council managed lands.
A large part of the problem with those small pockets of land is not being able to shoot on them,places I used to shoot as a kid without a problem I wouldnt dream of shooting on now for fear someone would call the cops and I would be shot.

Sad for the farmers but man I wish there some places like that to shoot around us up here.

I'd love to get in on that. Never visited that area either... Door knocking trip must be had.

used to go down to the easter bunny hunt years ago so have a couple of friends that might know the odd farm. Been a struggle to get back down for a lash though.
the areas we were in were lucky to give up much more than 300 odd rabbits for 10 people for an all day shoot.
I'd rather go back down and do a bit of shotgun and 22 work depending on the ground.

I walk my dog over at the Rail Trail some evenings and the river track by the Clyde Hospital on others. There are literally hundreds of rabbits there but not a place where one can safely (or legally) shoot. The poor old dog loves a good chase but he just gives up because there are so many at one time! The last virus drop was ineffectual, and people are a bit wary about shooting in semi-public areas at present. I saw two decent-sized brindle pigs on the road in the Cromwell Gorge last Wednesday evening about 9pm, plus there are often goats and the odd fallow visible from the road.

Sssshhhh @gundoc don't tell them that , next thing they will all want to live here...........move on people nothing here to see or shoot.

Come round that big bend by the clyde dam heading towards Cromwell couple weeks back and theres about 30 goats casually grazing their way along the roadside. Never seen goats there before but those faces along the lake front there do look goaty, briar and matagouri and rocks and bugger all else

It does look like a bumper season for rabbits with a reasonably mild winter. I hosted a mate down from the NI last week and hit a few stations and farms for some casual shooting.
On one afternoon we started shooting around 5pm and finished at 8.30 and had shot around 220 rabbits.
That in itself is pretty good going however whats more impressive is that we never moved from one average sized gully, in fact we never took a step once we were set up.
Walking back to the car there were dozen and dozens of tiny rabbits running everywhere.
I think the 17 HMR and .22 will be working hard this summer.
