Thread: Looking for private land for rabbits around chch

Hi all,
I’m new to rabbit hunting and keen to get started and out with my .22. From what I’ve read, private land is usually the go-to for rabbits. I’m based in Christchurch, so I figure farms around here would be the best option.

At the moment the only private land I have access to is on the West Coast, which is a bit of a mission, so I’d really appreciate any advice or suggestions. Happy to take a DM if that’s easier.

Polite door knocking in well dressed non hunting clothes is your best option.
Offer labour, other assistance to the landowners to sweeten the deal.
Be prepared to be turned down many times, but stay polite at all times.

Helping farmers in their time of need has opened many doors for me hunting and pest control. Takes time to earn their full trust but it's worked for me obtaining access to easy hunting in my old age. Haven't chased the hunting, just offered help and the hunting appeared down the track.
