Possum trapping plan
Hey
So I've been trapping on and off for a while with some limited success and I'm really keen to get better at it and get serious. Would really love to hear any advice you guys can offer to me :)
heres what I know(or need to know)/what im doing so far:
- I've got some cheap traps from trademe and they sometimes go off and are empty I'd like to get some better ones, perhaps ones that have a sensitivity adjustment? can anyone recommend me a brand of trap to buy?/ a source/outlet for them?
-For lure I've used flour and icing sugar 5:1, is there anything else I should be adding? (seems to work okay)
-regarding possum habitat: where can I find possums at given times of year? I've only trapped in pines and willows before but I'm planning on doing it on native bush, I assume they are in there all year around?
- It's coming up to summer soon and i'd like to keep trapping, I know the fur is thinner during summer so I'd earn less per poss but does anyone know how much more you need for a kg roughly? I figure it wouldnt be more than 20 or so? so it should still be profitible just slightly less so.
Thanks for any help guys I Reallly appreciate it as im amped as to get back out there and go hard,
cheers :yaeh am not durnk:

Try curry powder or cinnamon in your lure seems to work well. Are possums setting your traps off and not getting caught? If so make sure you bed them well

In my younger days (caught many hundred of the furry critters for pocket money) I use to use flour, vegetable oil and a splash of vanilla essence mixed together till it was like play dough.
It was a very durable bait. Anything but heavy rain did jack all to it.
Even once the bait was gone the coons would chew the bark where some of the oil had soaked in.
Was good stuff.

The
You can pull it free with one hand .. Pull ...shove in you pocket and go.. You could use a differnt colour where you set your trap so you know where it is exactly ...or like me when you make your dog stay so you can clear the trap ..
Bloody hell well I guess you get the idea... Crazy computer or fat fingers.
