Reduced 223 loads
I had a play making up some reduced recoil youth loads for my M7 223 Rem for my young kids to use when then step up from the .22lr.
I wanted 22 mag to 22 hornet sort of velocities, but using a 55gr projectile. I used IMR4198 which works well for reduced loads and seems to give better grouping than H4895.
14gr gave an average of 2,111 fps, 16gr gave 2350 fps and 18gr gave 2600 fps.
They all shot pretty well, but the 14gr load was a standout and had absolutely no recoil.
Should be a bit of fun for training the young ones before they step up to full power loads at 3200 fps eventually.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...5b819d1700.jpg

11gr of AP100 also works a treat. Gives about 2100fps from memory.

looks great....varmit type projectiles should still expand at that speed. pity we cant still buy .22magnum projectiles in bulk...seen the results of them at full speed in .223 rather effective.would be perfect for your use...maybe try hornet type projectiles???

How tall are your kids and what have you done stock/scope wise?
I have shortened(actually got Greg to do it) my JW stock and barrel and also the Howa 223.....the 223 my lad actually shoots better than the 22 (Factory ammo but it is suppressed) and after a bit of a blat on Sunday I was trying to work out what exactly he was having problems with with the 22.....may have cut too much from the stock on it or the scope is positioned wrong.....needs more practice.
