small game permits being made available for DOC land

Stumbled upon this while browsing through the DOC website that you can now get permits for hunting small game on DOC land. Would be interesting to find out what areas they are allowing permits to be issued.

These have been available for quite a long time from the DOC offices. I've been getting them for the past couple of years for the Otago region.

They used to be called rimfire permits, but seem to have been revamped and renamed.

Ive tried to get one for Auckland or waikato areas, unfortunatley according to DOC they have no suitable areas for small game hunting within either Auckland or Waikato. Peeves me off somewhat you would think they would encourage someone out there busting bunnies and also would be Ideal for taking out our younger hunters for some practice with cheap ammo. So my search for a spot for nailing the little furry critters continues.....

Just got off the phone with Welly area office.

Sounds like none available for pretty much the whole lower NI. He reckons only really applies to Otago rabbits.

And that is THE BEST THING that could happen to those pines up higher. They will end up costing more than the gorse in a very few years.
