Stingers and old Toz rifles

Does anyone know if Stingers will chamber in the older Toz rifles? I have got a Toz-18 here. (No you can't have the mag. No I don't have a spare one.)
I have not had any luck with accuracy with Stingers before with my other .22 rifles, but it nags me that I have not tried them in this one.

Actually does anyone get decent accuracy from Stinger ammo? What about Yellowjackets?

So far she will shoot Minimags into half an inch at 50 metres, and everything else it doesn't like. Which is fine for me, and I am reasonably happy with Minimags on big southern hares...but still the call of the Stinger whispers to me, ever since the seventies when they came out and the old man thought they were Gods breath.

Stingers will chamber in any .22 LR including the Toz. They are well made and robust rifles, despite being a tad ugly.

Found both Stingers and YellowJackets are all about speed and noise, probably ok out to 50 mtrs but not a load that generally were accurate, at that stage of the .22 ammo game it was all about FPS.
The mini mag is a good round it your rifle shoots it well, plenty of punch and the projectile does the business. See how the Toz runs a sub sonic round..... kills just as well.

I thought the Stingers wouldn't chamber in some rifles, I seem to remember having some Chinese .22 that I couldn't close the bolt on with them. I might be misremembering.

I always used power points in my .22's then after a week of shooting hares with different ammo, I decided the Minimags seemed to kill the big hares faster, they ran less anyway.

You kill the big hares outright with subs?

try the winchester 42grn powerpoint subs Bud.....you wont go back...seriously if your rifle likes them they are just so far above the other stuff as to make it all redundant.

I found Kilwell Whisper were very tight to chamber in my Toz 16 but I only use subsonics so haven't tried a lot of different types.

My Toz shoots the CCI subs better than the Winchester.

Subs are surprising killers mate, place the shot in the right spot and you will anchor it or it will only a very short distance before going down. Generally they are very consistent because the manufactures tend to load them just below the sound barrier.
Being sub sonic they don't come back through the sound barrier , de - stablise and tumble.
If you can spend some time with the Toz and it shoots subs well then put some time in to work out drop and a 100 mtr shot is very achievable.
Try both CCI and Winchester subs, both are good effective rounds and kill well, forum member Rossi 45 has it down to a fine art with kills out to 200 mtrs plus with subs.
Worth putting some effort in, I always shot fast 22 ammo , now after all the shooting I do in Central I only use subs and suppressor.

my eyes were opened to subsonics one moonlit night when we spotted 6 possums in roadside tree. 6 body shots produced 6 very dead possums in very quick time.....it was almost like the projectile managed to dump all its energy inside possum instead of most of it with some carrying on out the otherside.
many big south island hares have fallen to same round and results havent made me change my mind.

I have an old TOZ, two mags, and iv shot stingers with it :thumbsup:
I think mine is a TOZ-17-03
I put glow in the dark tape on the bottom of the mags.

the trusty Toz is very catholic in taste and true to its russian parentage will chamber and fire anything.the only shit iever put through mine was a packet of remington subsIve heard noisier blowjobs and i could piss further.rember a big buck jackos look of suprise on a dirt road one night as the bloody remington sub went past skipping like a fucking roak across a pond -at 15mrenage ffs!

X2 on the Winchester subs-despatched game far better than one would expect.
since my move back from OZ I grabbed some of my shooting irons and ammo that my good friend was looking after for me. some circa 2005-6 white packed Winchester subs.
I also found the kilwell hush powers identical performance wise. Same ammo different head stamp IMO.
Slightly off topic some of my old ammo contained the red packet Winchester power points in the red packet. I see now there are two different powerpoints in the black packets. Which one is closer to the old one? Matching speed and weight would be easiest but cant be fecked getting the old red packet out to double check.
Anyone know off the top of their head?

Pretty sure the old 40gr is the same stuff in new box, the 42gr is an entirely new round and is an emphatic killer for a subsonic round.

yip 40 or 42grn....the 42grn in league of its own and my norinco loves them both.

My jw15 shoots velocitor into half inch @50m,42g subs a round an inch,might be worth a try instead of the stingers.

winchester powerpoint&rabbit ammo are well up my favourites list .in my first stirling .22 they accounted for many possums and quite a few rabbits and hairs .on possums they were in a word spectacular.damage done was mind boggling ,and nup no trip to A&E required.mind you that was my pre subs era -but even the subs are as wicked too.

I've found my Toz rifle in the OP to shoot Mini Mags very well indeed, put five rounds into an inch at 100 m last week just checking the open sights.
Still havn't tried Stingers in it actually.

Maybe I still might - in the last couple of days at my range I have jumped rabbits and now also a bloody pig...missed the bugger dammit. All very well to make a five shot one inch group on paper at 100 metres, but offhand at a pig at 50 metres and I missed him clean...:(

side note ..any ideas why they put a bell on the end of the barrel in early models ..?

actually seriously that is a good question. they had quite a tall front sight so maybe something to do with levelling front and rear sight?

I dont know if there is any truth to it, but someone mentioned about the smallest size their barrel turning gear could grip at the end.....Made for bigger things?

Flash eliminator????-Paulus Manders threaded mine internally ,made up an insert whose protruding end was threaded for the suppressor.
front sight-fuck me stuck up like a 6"nail and about as sharp.
i took the open sights off mine -now in amongst my spares ,though with emptying my shed as we go into section subdivision and an new hoose,god only knows when ill get round to sorting that lot out.

yeah @kotoku. That nail like front sight is what I remember-that's why I thought it had something to do with the sight plane with the rear sight.

yellow jackets are damn filthy ammo. ok in bolts horrid in semi's unless you enjoy cleaning them. stingers are good as is most cci ammo. the fragmented hollowpoints are great on rabbits but hare takes more penetration and less expansion (no not a freudian slip there gadgetman)

They were originally made for use by trappers in Siberia. The bell and large muzzle recess provided some barrel protection from being blocked with snow, mud, etc. It also provided a convenient base for the tall front sight (needed to match the elaborate tangent rear sight). They were designed to be primarily used with iron sights, most affordable (for Siberian trappers) scopes being to fragile for the harsh conditions.

needless to say my toz is livin up to its rugged reputation ,these days in the hands of GSPF-whom it has to be said is rather bloody deadly with it!

brought mine from gun city on a sale one day as it was the cheapest .22 they had $150 was like brand new id say very few round have been through it had a 20x4 scope on it its a real tack driver.
