Nailed another 20 in the torch tonight, including this inky black one.

Looks like it has been lucky in the past with holes thru both ears

If you have a black rabbit, that means there are a lot of rabbits there. There used to be a ratio in Central Otago when you started seeing coloureds but I forget what it is now. 1 in so many thousands for a ginger/red, 1 in so many for a black etc. I dont know if it was any such science or just what was spoken. I shot a pure white one in the hills around Alexandra in the late 80's, only one I have ever seen, tanned its skin and kept it for many years before it got too tatty. Used to see quite a few black ones down there from time to time.

Good shooting from you, not so good the guy who was shooting 2 inches high

Old wives tail that. I can take you to a spot where you will get a ginger every time but there's not many rabbits there, I shot maybe five or six there so far. It's genetics.
Over the last few years there's been a lot with a higher percentage of white on them.

Quite right, some areas seem to have a lot of black bunnies and others not. Shot a blonde one in Conroys gully are few years ago, very easy to see in the thyme!

Same with possums, just genetics is certain areas. Southern part of the Hokonui's produced all sorts of weird and wonderful possums back in the 1990's. White, light brown, piebald, all sorts. I wished I'd carried a camera in those days.

Shot a rabbit once with bullet holes through its ears. The ears had being laying flat along its body. Rabbit didn’t die with that shot so I shot again and found the holes in the ears.

Nice shooting!! Thanks for the vid. Before they released the new virus, the station I go to down south, you'd see at least a dozen black ones per trip.

That skin would be perfect for tying some nice night flies for those big western bay browns

Nice shooting. Glad to see no trees were harmed in the making of that video.

I use to tie these without the eye to target big browns in the Tongariro at change of light in the evening.
Im sure your dad would appreciate it if you donated that to his trout fishing cause
