Finally slipped up. Liver and tinned mackerel. Did have a cover over the cage.

Saw it checking it out at dusk, but moved on, obviously returning later.

Spied a quail family running around a couple days back with half a dozen chicks at foot, so hopefully they’ll be a little safer now.

Mother and bonus kitten a couple of nights ago, there was another adult shot too but didn't grab a photo. Glad these things are finally part of the predator free goal.Name: 20251219_205408.jpg

What are cats like to hunt with IR? I see some during daylight but they're extremely cunning and rare to see

What are you on about haha?
I frequently see cats on your road. I reckon you'd get a few if you ran some traps close to home.
    Overkill is still dead.

Pretty sure I hit record on that shot, will have a look and see if I've still got it.

Their eyes are very reflective, body shows up like normal. The heat through thermal was perfectly normal like a rabbit, birds seem to be the hardest to spot through thermal with all the insulation the feathers give them, Pukekos in particular are pretty awkward to spot thermally, and their feathers also absorb both visible and infrared light so they are pretty bloody hard to spot at all at night.

It wasn't in the dark so doesn't show how it comes up in IR. And I didn't record the kitten.

Some pig action last night, a sow and a few bacon seeds became victims before the weather ended our activities just after we spotted another mob of eight or more animals.
