Bit like the odd one turning up owhango way...been happening since 80s and some funky reds were around even then.

I know of plenty of sika shot along way from the main herd. So they are slowly spreading. I do suspect a few of these have been escapes and numbers are not high in most area at all outside of the main kaweka/kaimanawa herd.
One case i know of a guy shot a record book stag on back of his farm thinking it was a scummy red.
