    I have heard of others that have shot Sika long before '02 - '03 in the area so suspect @BRADS is spot on, if not even earlier than that?!

    Bit like the odd one turning up owhango way...been happening since 80s and some funky reds were around even then.

    That’s bloody interesting. Were they shot on farmland? Or up on the range?

    I would’ve thought they’d be up the Makarora river in a shot and up into the ranges if they’ve been around since then

    I know of plenty of sika shot along way from the main herd. So they are slowly spreading. I do suspect a few of these have been escapes and numbers are not high in most area at all outside of the main kaweka/kaimanawa herd.

    One case i know of a guy shot a record book stag on back of his farm thinking it was a scummy red.
