My mate shot a stag chasing hinds and fending off another stag this past roar, 450 yards with a 7 prc, 175 grain elite hunter' soaked up 3 in the boiler room before finally going down after what must have been 15 minutes. He got back up after each shot, we thought we must have knocked the rifles zero off. When we got over to the stag and inspected the poi's, they all hit the mark bang on. Broken shoulder and his vitals were mush. I used the same rifle to shoot a stag later thatbday at 650 yards and it was dead almost instantly. Some animals die harder than others. Saw this with pigs too from time to time, stuck some in the heart, basically cut the heart in 2 and still they refused to give up for an obscene amount of time. All I can put it down to is adrenaline
