Hi all,
Managed to draw a landing site in the 2020 ballot.
Baker Creek mid May. Anyone hunted there and have any information they would be willing to share?
Cheers

Can't help you with that block sorry, but I'm keen to know how you were informed about having a block. By email I guess? Fingers crossed that I draw 1...

I've been busy az & working out'a town for the past two weeks & completely missed the ballot cut off, fuk I'm useless lol
We had Baker Stream in 2013,good block we saw plenty of Tahr back then. We flew to the top camp not the one on the Landsbourgh. It would be a hell of a climb from by the river.
PM me if you want a chat.
@The Claw my work colleague got Shelter Hollow
we have drawn Barlow River. If anyone has any info, it would be warmly received.
Yep, PM me with your number.
#1 tip though... There's keas, lots of keas and they love your tent, sleeping bag, cans of piss etc (I've seen photos of a destroyed campsite [emoji1787]) so be prepared for that...
It's a good block otherwise

hmmmm, just realised Barlow is mostly covered by the Perth ZIP 1080 blitzkreig.... @The Claw, how recent is your intel? and what are people's experiences with how susceptible tahr are to the green gold? starting to wonder if we drew the block because nobody else put in for it!
Have had Barlow before, good campsite but stays in the shade most of the day so it's pretty cold, heaps of room to set up a big standing room tent. Good access to decent country by heading up onto bench on true left above camp, were a lot of animals below camp down inside the scrub line on the true right, big day to access them but it's an option for a day if you can glass up something decent from camp. I shot a decent bull up in the real rocky country above the snow line on the true right above camp. Heaps of ice in the country above camp on true right so crampons and ice axe would be advised as I didnt have them and made retrieval of my bull a real mission and a wee bit stupid when I look back at it.
The DoC/ZIP operation up there (was closely monitored by NZDA members) found that Tahr did not get into the 1080. However the Kea did and as usual they killed a few, despite having a few Tahr carcasses as lures to try and tempt the Kea away from eating the 1080 baits
@FRST thanks for the info, i had a further google and found the brief GAC report on it - it does sound quite promising.
Most people that have been there camp at lower camp site. No keas at the bottom camp. When biv'd up high those bastards can ruin your day if they feel inclined. Doesn't matter if its dark either, middle of the night c$&#ts.
Good numbers of tahr up there, well there was this year and last. Its had a whole lot shot out of there by DoC after the ballots finished. 700 odd from top of the landsborough, I'll check.
Mate shot a 15" this year 6th period. Its typical landsborough country really. Big climbs but relatively good going. Watch the frozen rocks. We found that the bigger boys are almost always close to the Bush edge. Saw more tahr low than high this year too and when I mean low I'm talking on the river flats.

Had Baker Creek 17 years ago. Snow in the lower campsite. Mate shot a good bull up The Landy towards the north end of the block, opposite Zora Canyon I think that is. Doubt it’s changed in all these years, fun week, great country.
