Maybe my best work, I shine with thick black crayons.

Most of my hunting is with a .243 and never had one, not one, failure to kill with 95 Berger or Targex, same result with a bit more "thump" with the 105 Targex. Red stags and bull Tahr included. Will continue to recommend them to anyone wants my opinion. My opinion will of course, recommend hitting the animal in the first place......
Does the Targex 105gr need a faster than normal twist?
I had a 70's-vintage BLR in .243 that did outstanding work on grey kangaroos up to red stags. That rifle had pretty simple tastes, seemed to love the 100-grain Remington Core-Lokt. I did find the occasional failure to exit at longer ranges on bigger-bodied stags, I definitely felt like I was at the limit of that round in terms of killing power.
If I still had it, I'd be thinking more about lightweight monolithic bullets driven as fast as possible. To me that seems to capitalise on the calibre's strengths best.
That's a nice one!!
Have just gotten a .243 for the mrs to shoot with as she’s not a fan of the .270.
Grabbed a box of the federal blue box 100gr to site in with.
Hopefully it’s a gun I can have her excited to shoot!
My now 13yr old has been using a 243 for couple of years now,one of my favourite guns .
Spence strikes again at 220 yards.
.243 95gr targex at a mild 2780fps, slightly quartering towards us. Hit on the point of the shoulder and penetrated about 15". Wasn't a bang flop which has often been the case, made it about 25m.

Tempted to get some 69gr Hammers @ 3900 because the heavier Hammers require an 8T or better. Kiwi Greg used some 69grainers in a 6 Creedmoor and rated them. That boy looks happy and should be. Podium.
.243 racking up another couple for the year.
Spencer's usual confidence of "shot it exactly in the middle of the shoulder Dad."
He's closing in on the 8 deer at the age of 8 goal.

Yeah good! Don't know how many deer and pigs I have shot with them but it is a lot. Well into the hundreds as the .243 is my main culling rifle.
To be fair I haven't tried a great deal of projectiles in .243 to compare them to. A few different types of 100gr sp which the targex leaves for dead as far as time to death and leeway for shot placement goes.
95gr sst were very good also and the 95gr ballistic tip but for the extra price of the bt you get no extra performance over the sst or targex.
I can't remember exactly what my furthest shot with the targex has been, think it was about 630 yards. Have shot a considerable amount of deer over 500 with them.
For how many animals they have been used on the amount lost is virtually none. Done plenty of less than ideal shots as far as shot placement goes, guts and back end on running shots, not ideal but the animals tend to give up pretty quickly. Seldom even requiring a dog to find them.
I have had a couple of animals where the projectile mustn't have expanded much and they have made it a wee way but this is an exception to the rule. Normally they don't make it far at all and the projectile expands rather rapidly.
A suppressor also make all the difference for my wife. Big nasty Bang vs no noise reduces the cringe a lot ive found. Suppressed vs non suppressed makes a huge difference to my .243 for my wife. She doesnt mind the recoil but whack on the suppressor and she says its like shooting the .223 un suppressed. Which means shes happy to go shooting more.
Hey what stock have you got on that Tikka @Shearer ?
@RifleTuner It's a custom made by Mike Stewart's (owner of BR) son. I very foolishly sold it to someone on the forum several years ago. Lucky who ever it was because it would have appreciated in value. The handle was made of laminated bamboo, the steel was A2.
Back to .243's.
Tikka 243 8T . Is it happening in NZ or is it a Unicorn?
@TLB so from that I would suggest the targex expands the most quickly of the 3, followed by the SST then the BT?
The 243 Ballistic tip is meant to be quite a bit tougher than most of them
Yeah likely be in that order although the 95gr sst can be quite explosive too.
The targex from what I understand have a Berger jacker but with the hollow point slightly more open than the Berger to allow for more reliable expansion.
None of my loads are going warp speed either. Haven't chased velocity so much and both of my .243s have short barrels. They might behave differently going 200 fps faster.
I use the sako Game head 100gn in My lupo 243 and everything I point it at drops? 😂

Projectiles doing what projectiles should do.
85 grain Hornady Interbond at 3100fps.
One end for end on a Sika hind.
One through both shoulders of a Rusa stag. 57 grains and 63 grains retained.
Pity Hornady have discontinued them.Attachment 266028
Nothing to say bout that sorry! Wouldn't be a secret then;)
I didn't divulge your secret @TARGEX. I just said that you had a secret :)
I hope the secret isn't he drinks waikato
Definitely not that anyway. Don't like beer full stop if I'm honest!
Well that's a bugger but more for me
Im looking to pick one up for my 9yo... a slight 9yo. So needs to be lightish and suppressed. He's taken his first deer this wknd (with a freinds 308 suppressed and with a muzzlebreak!) and and a beautiful head shot on a goat with a 22mag. Hes hooked so keen to sort him out for bday #10 !
I thought only the latest fashion calibers out could kill deer...
