    .270 or 7mm-08?

    Hi all
I've been hunting for around four years now and thinking its time to upgrade my old 25-06.
I am a bit undecided on weather to go for a .270 or a 7mm-08, the hunting I do is about a 50/50 split between deer and tahr most of the shots I take are around 100m but I would like to start taking longer shots.
    Cheers for any advice!

What is your old 25/06? If it is a good base like a sako it might be worth re barreling and giving a new youth.

Bloody heathen! what you mean "upgrade" your 25-06!

Longer shots?: a properly loaded 25-06 kills Tahr out to and past 400 with no drama, I've had all sorts from .243 to .338 Lap and I keep coming back to my 25-06's as my go to rifle, (well till a couple of days ago, but that's another story)

Don't think you deserve a 25odd, better give it to me before you hurt it's feelings.........

thee old calibre debate, most rifles shoot stuff dead, depends what you want out of your new rifle, suppressed, range, dialling up, do you reload?

If it's not broken why fix it maybe just get a new rifle in 25 06, tikka do them.

If you want to change I would try to find a mate/ mates mate with the rifle you want and shoot it.

I have a nz hunter bushpig 308 and confident out to 300, but I am getting a rem mag for the + 300 shots, if that wall hanger stag pops out you want to nail it.

    Good luck mate

Yeah you cant really go wrong with any of the popular rounds. There really isnt much in them beyond personal choice (and lipstick colour if you like 7-08's).

Good advice. Just rebarrel your 25/06 to .280 Rem. If you want a shorter, lighter rifle then a T3 7m/08 or .308.

I've always thought of 270 as just being inefficient - a fair bit of extra noise and recoil for no advantage. Whatever floats your boat though, I know other people like it.
