Mmm, yes, abit like this post really. just because one deer went 100 m before falling over doesnt mean its the projectiles fault or the next deer wont just be pole axed.
Anything shot behind the shoulder and not quite right animals might run.. The fed powershoks (if it was a blue box)normally cause a heap of damage and drop animals very well.
Writing of a certain round because of one deer running is ricdiclous. To get results everytime hitting the shoulder and right in that engine room it work 100pcent of the time.
Shooting further back, dont quite get it right or just hit one lung a round can still cause heaps of damge or not and the deer will still run then fall over.

Yes, without a doubt, the round is not not the problem here, where it was shot and a couple of factors were.
Shoot 20 deer and in a few different areas and see what the results are first before you blame the tools...... ,

Thanks guys. He will read and Take the advice that suits.
I Expect he was looking for a large exit wound like I would expect on a goat hit side on with my 243.

I put precision hunter ammo through mine. And it’s bloody good. Sacked a bull tahr on the spot out at 400m earlier in the year. I took the skin was very impressed with the damage, found the Bullet sitting right under the skin

i smacked my largest antlered sambar stag with a few factory 130gr super x's in .270, it was close quaters , i was fallow hunting the lead up to the rut when i'd glassed it from 600m away, i stalked toward it an met it close in the timber on the side of the hill, knowing i had a high velocity and fairly soft projectile up it, at less than 30m i shot 'behind the shoulder' a tad, it dropped n thrashed around and i keept shootin , 3 from a few angles aiming for the heart area and saving one for when the adrenaline chilled out for justin.

pulled a few out but 100% energy dump.

good dumpers on fallow own here at all ranges, so a plus 4 by the sounds on a plain jane super x or corelokt in 130gr

before i go, i also loaded 130gr corlokts at around 2850 fps and they actually worked 'better' in terms of penetration on sambar from 30-350 meters, not going so fast, not shredding so much weight

Is go for either the 130g or 140g SST in Hornady Super Performance.

I always found the SSTs to work well in my two .270s, out too 400 yards. There was a guy on here who regularly shoot out 1000 yards with a .270, it might be worth finding his threads. (Or was it the other forum!).

Gee, did you ever try Powerpoints ?? I know two blokes who have lost deer with SST's in their 270's in the last twelve months (Both have lost two deer). They are the one projectile I would never use. I have never lost a deer shot with a PP

Think of it like a Horse for a certain Course.

is shaggs shooting them at "1000" meters, or is he bush hunting?

this right there decides which projectile to look at... end of story.

projectiles FAIL because the end user is not up to date beyond marketing hype.

Like TTSX goin slow.... or SST goin fast...... for example.

cup an core aka - plain ol boring jane vanilla SP "jacketed with lead" projectiles are going to do 99% of your NZ hunting situations-- use a Heavy for Cal weight for example 150gr SUPER X for bush stalking more often than not... OR the 130gr If your paddock shooting deer 200 or so more often than at the end of the barrel..

oh then there is the marketing hype projectiles, the ones that you must load or it just will not work ---

you will find the Federal powershok, Remington Corelokt, Winchester Super X, ummm Sellior Bellot, Fiocchi, Hornady "whitetail" etc etc all the exact same schit in a different packet

thats where i would be looking if i were said hunter with 270..

    keep the horses for courses

Yes deciding a type of bullet is no good after a sample of one is a little rushed to judgement. if you want to drop an animal on the spot shoot it in the neck! Smashing the shoulder(s) is always a good shot too but even then they sometimes run a short distance before running out of oxygen.
