    Absolute shocker.

Had my first big day haunting since I had my knee replacement about 8 months ago. Iíve had we short trips but this was a chance to push the limits.

Headed up the Maungatua range which is close to home. And to Frank I wish I hadnít bothered.
Lost the track about halfway up and ended up having to push through chest high fern. Eventually got to the tops and seen the square root of bugger all. I had been told deer numbers were high, but the must have pissed of for Labour weekend.

The view was rather nice though.

On the way down got myself a bit lost and ended up bluffed.
While trying to get down I had a bit of a fall. Was only about 4 or 5 feet but it felt like 10.
I think the poo that came out broke my fall as all I got was this and a bit of a sore back.

Did I say I saw no bleeding animals. So the new fire stick stayed quiet.

Well it sucks mate but I suppose that's the way it goes sometimes eh , otherwise it wouldn't be hunting. It would be called shooting....
And a fall is never fun.

Perhaps the poo smell scared the animals away...

Yes it sometimes is a bit tough but remember when you find a good area these not so good spots seem to fade away. Still a good day just being there and the knee sure got a workout.

Showing that much leg when hunting might be alerting animals to your presence. Could get some interest at the hut though

Have a mentioned I make some leather stuff.... could be a new market ... Sling that converts to a whip , Ammo butt holder that converts to handcuffs , leather g- string with antlers carved in ( could even do an edible venison flavoured version, might be a bit chewy though) , for those intimate nights at the hut.....

At least you were off the tracks and away from the roads. Iíve had reds and pigs from there in years past (used to live in waihola)

The best part about days like this is you now know a spot not to go back to. I found a place like that last week.
