Haven't been in there myself but it's on my hitlist. Plan to just hoon across the lake with inflatable and walk in

About 5 years ago we flew into the top of the Craigie Burn (next door). There was a bit of deer sign but we didn't see any on our side. We did see plenty of and shot one chamois. The most of anything we saw was bloody Harvey Hutton, he flew right past our camp every morning, just a prick.

The pilot who flew us up (the fishing guide guy) reckoned he saw the occasional good stag on the bush edge despite HH.

Awesome country that you need to keep your wits about you in . . . .

Whatever you do, don’t use Harvey, he’s a cunt ….and expensive. Probably find yourself deposited in an area that just been hammered. I think he was also one of the outfits doing the Tahr anihilation job for DOC

Yup. ^^ Describes Harvey to a "T". I'll see if I can find out if the fishing guides (who were operating an R44 out of Makaroura) are still about.

Hmmm - It was an outfit called "Cedar Lodge" but it was bought out and since packed up - about two years ago. It supposedly operated under a James Scott arrangement of some sort. My cousin (who lives at Makarora) reckons that the best bet is still James Scott, he has machines all round the place (usually one at Haast at least) and is a top bloke to deal with. The Wallis's at Minaret may also be worth a try if you can "hold you nose long enough" to stomach their business practices.

Yeah saw a video on YT recently of Harvey hazing a Tahr down so some clown could shoot it. Get a price from James man in Haast-Scott he’s a top bloke.
Shut up, get out & start pushing!
