    Altimarloch

    Hi again all
Bit of a rehash of an earlier post I made which I mistakenly suggested it was the Black Birch area I was mainly interested in, although the replies I got included the Altimarloch area I am keen on.
Popped up to the top for the first time earlier in the week, took my four legged best mate but one of her legs was a tad tender so we weren’t able to go very far. Met a great chap (didn’t get his name) who was heading off for a hunt and he gave me some great positive info but I was hoping for some/any more from any forum members familiar with the area?
I’m going again regardless, sans stinky 🐶
Firstly vehicle security, I hope I’m assuming right that’s it’s too far for local rascals to go for any funny business?
Is it worth fly camping away over night or can you do alright with day trips (obviously water and good tent required given terrain)
I’m a bush hobbit thru and thru and the open tops, to me, seem pretty barren, are the animals likely to just stick to bush edges or can you find them away from the bush?
Any info will be gratefully received, please feel free to DM, I’m not desperate to get an animal, I average 1 every 5 years to seems!!! Just really want an excuse to explore some amazing new terrain!
    Cheers
    FP

Good spot in there and better the further you walk , fly camping is the best to make the most out of the evenings after the heat of the sun on the tops. If your bush hunting with a dog no worries hunting all day long. Take plenty of ammo for the goats. Watch out for climbing over Mt Horrible in low cloud its very bluffy and super dangerous, on your assent / decent and have to lift the dog up its so steep in places.
    flyingpillock and XR500 like this.
