I make a point of not calling it hunting either, but it does top up the freezer with prime venison

Not evil at all Greg. Simply practical freezer filling.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

I think its only evil when blokes shoot things in the light and try to claim it as a hunting trophy. Around where I am, I cant think of any other hunters besides my brother and I that actually abide by that law/moral.

When I was at uni I shot deer in the light for meat because I didnt earn enough to get by without it, I wasn't ashamed or proud of it just had to be done. Wouldnt shoot a trophy stag that way though ever. Spotlighting is pretty much illegal here on deer anyways without strict restrictions and forms filled out.

To be honest I don't see why shooting an animal under a spotlight should be considered any more or less ethical or deserving of being called hunting than shooting an animal at reasonably long range in daylight.

Both require some skills on the part of the shooter (and the self-control to do it safely and pass up shots that aren't safe), and are dependent on having certain equipment that could be considered an 'unfair advantage' by some people. Of course those people forget that any weapon at all can be considered an unfair advantage, or just using the natural advantage that is the human brain...

So where's the trip report Greg
I'm drawn to the mountains and the bush, it's where life is clear, where the world makes the most sense.

I have seen deer trophies hanging on walls that were taken by fair chase, bought, poached, stolen, spot lighted, game parked [where someone holds your hand] and one retrieved after a vehicle hit it...they all look magnificent. A trophy is in the mind, heart and soul of the hunter and so it doesn't matter how the animal was taken. I myself have taken many animals using the 'electric dog' but have never taken anything worth mounting on the wall. Spot lighting is hunting, it just has a different set of values to other methods of obtaining animals whether for the meat or for the mere sake of killing any and all animals in this country...which some seem determined to do in their lifetime.
    Scouser likes this.
Which is worse, ignorance or apathy...I don't know and don't care.

Interested to know where you can pick up the scope clamp for your LED Greg? I have a similar light but haven't been able to find a decent clamp...
