Any members of the NZDA Auckland branch on here?

I'm thinking about joining the Auckland branch of the NZDA and I wondered if there are any members on here?
I'm just starting out with deer stalking so I'm keen to make contacts with other deer stalkers who wouldn't mind giving a young man a pointer or two. Also keen for the party hunts. Probably will join when my uni holidays begin in November. I think I'll come to the next club night next month to get more info, will anyone from here be there? Cheers

hey phillip, i use to be one but now that i have moved i am no longer on. they have nice club rooms which they own at point chev, and pretty much do a party hunt a month. good bunch of guys even if they do live in auckland. they also have a range up at riverhead that u could go to, but only on range days. u cant go by yourself. 200m range, and the standard 100m. i wont be there tho, i be in the scrub checking it out.

You have a couple of choices at least, NZDA Auckland and NZDA North Auckland, not sure if the South Auckland branch is still active. As mentioned by Sakokid, Auckland own their clubrooms (in Target Road) Pt Chev, and have a longish term lease arrangement with the current operators of the Riverhead Forest in which their range is situated, both their 100m and 200m mounds are covered which is very nice, and every station has a benchrest table. There are some formalities to endure with Auckland's range, as it is in a controlled access area and you have to "convoy in and out" at designated times of the shooting day.

North Auckland branch own 14 acres of land just north of Riverhead township on which they have 100/200m range and a clubhouse. North Auckland is only allowed about 22 shooting days per year on account of restrictions imposed by council for the benefit of "the neighbours" even though the club was there first... But you can rock up any time on a shooting day.

I'm an endowment member of North Auckland but actively shoot at whichever one is open on a day I can actually get away from other chores... Auckland have many more range days given their arrangement in the Forest, but both branches are very active with HUNTS training and trips. Both have websites and publish their shooting calendar on them.

Definately join the DA if you hunt, you get a couple of million $ Public Liability Insurance as part of your membership!

Cheers ishoot10s, I live out east so I'll probably join the Auckland branch. Cheers for the info on the range and that though. I'm pretty poor and don't reload as of yet, so I can't see myself going to the range a hell of a lot, but it will be great to get on it at some point. Truth be told, I should really fork out and get to know my 7mm08 at bit better, espcially on the 200m. Question, the joining fee, do I have to pay it again if I delay rejoining after my membership runs out? Or is it pretty much a once-off covered essentially for life thing?

Cheers 300winmag, I'll see you there!

Sorry, I don't know the answer to that one but I'm sure someone from the committee will explain if you visit their Clubhouse on a meeting night. I can tell you the Auckland branch used to have excellent Head Skinning demonstration nights a few years back... I think the format depended largely on who the Entertainments Officer was at the time. A few of us from North Auckland used to go along to participate observe.
