Anyone have any tips or advice for hunting Tongariro area?

Not looking for anyone's spot X just some general advice on the area if anyone has something to share. Never been into the Tongariro forest conservation area so thinking about having a look around there see if I get onto any deer, possibly heading in from Owhango side. Had a look through forum posts but all fairly old now.

Anyone hunted here recently? Erua just to the south has been 1080'd and this block is due for a dose soon apparently so might be a while until worth heading back in again.
