Anyone up for a forage through the Kaimai's over Christmas time?

That time of year and the holiday leave is looming and I fancy making some plans for the time off.
Wrapping up, see the pun, work on the 19th December and back on the 12th January and looking to see if anyone is keen for a day hunt, or maybe an overnight depending on whether the lady of the house has taken the hints enough.
I need to be home for the usual days xmas and boxing day, family time and then the 31st for wedding anniversary. 1 year, everyone say ahhhhh otherwise keen to hear thoughts.
Thinking Kaimais and if Spook doesn't have the bus full maybe asking politely for a patch up his place for a couple of days.

Cheers kid, boxing day family time. sorry fella but it is what it is. If your keen then another day for sure.Oh and i ain't not kid anymore. slow and steady wins the race they say.

Sounds like a plan, idea is fly in by helicopter, drop a big feck off animal, winch it out and butcher it within 5 minutes, and be home in time for breakfast ;)
Or we go old school and take our time, stalk the buggers early doors and work for our catch peril ;)

Ill be in and around TGA from the 25th till the 4th. Im planing on getting in a bit so ill keep an eye out on here or you can give me a PM with some possible dates closer to the time. Day hunt is easy, overnight hunt would req a bit of a plan( on getting time off from my missus ) All good though.

PS: Im medium fitness at best :thumbsup:

The bus is empty, been a few say they want it, but nothing confirmed...so go for it. Shit load of grass on the 'hundred acres' with lots of silver trails through it last weekend.

Hoping to head in there next weekend for the 1st time. Probably go in from the Matamata side. Any good access points from there?

Just wondering how a 4x4 gets on with toyota corolla tyres ;-) knew he made his money some how! That is in the beleif your 4x4 wont become a corolla :thumbsup:

Toyota Corrolla wont look out of place at the road end, especially if you leave a couple of empty fert and compost bags in the footwell.

It's good. After a K in, Get off the track and you will find good areas and a good amount of sign. Some nice bush in there.

Off top of SH29 as above.
Old Kaimai road, No of 3 deer that have come out of there in the last month, Not far off the road either. 1st car park eaiser walking, 2nd car park better for parking.
Half way up sh29 Matamata side, on right, Kauri walk track ? Found first bit of deer sign in there last week, More pig rooting than anything tho, The track has been cleaned up a bit too, Makes for a easy walk in.
Wairere an Te tuhi = a lot of hunters in there, Prob get more over the Christmas period, You may run into an Aucklander or 2 while in there haha.
Tauhu an Thompsons like Spook suggested, Haven't been in from Tauhu track yet, Must do soon. Don't think many people hunt up Thompsons anymore due to being too lazy, Like myself ............
Waiorongomai road is another place to try in from. Goats, Deer, Pigs I've been told.
Mill road, No of a few pigs that have been chased up there this year and deer seen.
Kaimai tunnel/Puketutu stream area, Pigs an Deer have come out of there over time ... Check this site Walking Access Mapping System for legal access for here and other areas along the ranges.

@Spook, Hilux 6 stud, with a pair of month old buckshots, Might take you up on your offer to park up at your place, I normally get the special permit to hunt the TeTapui Blocks but out of season at moment, and the numbers took a hit with the 1080 drop last summer.
