My oldest boy has shot 8 red deer from 8 shots since mid October using Hornady American Whitetail in .243. Certainly does the trick. The odd one has run a wee bit, maybe 50 metres, but most not more than a few steps. Have used them out of a .25-06 with similar results so a .270 should do well.
We did use Superformance SST’s out of the .25-06 for a brief period, but where we hunt most shots are under 100 metres and that seems to be to short for the SST’s. Too many deer got up and ran off, so changed to the Whitetails and haven’t lost one since.
