App for hunting and locating game

I had this idea and I am not sure if there is already an app for it. When hunting I often know the following information: Where I am, the range to target, and the direction to target. So given I have that data it should be a snap to tell a smart phone app, mark postion x yards/meters from current position in y direction. This would then give me a pretty accurate postion of the downed game. Does anyone know of an app that does this as it would make finding game after those 300yard + shots, and before anyone says just get a dog, I am not allowed, the wife said ;-)

Many of the garmin GPS units have a feature that does exactly that, called 'Project Waypoint'. Provided the internal compass in the unit is calibrated correctly, you simply point the gps at the animal, and feed it the distance, and it sets a waypoint for you.

Some of the GPS apps for smartphones might have a similar feature?

Yip, the feature is called 'sight and go' on my Garmin I think. Never used it so not sure how well it works.

Found an app for the iphone called i hike nz gps. It has access, including offline, to all the Topo maps and allows you to create a waypoint using distance and direction. Had a play today and it looks like it will work, but I will let you all know. Thanks for the info, was pretty certain this feature was out there just didn't know what it was called.

An app that tells me where the animals are to start with would be more handy for me!
