Best goat hunting within a few hours of Auckland?

Hi there - I'm new to the forum and keen to get into hunting. I thought feral goats is probably a good place to start. I have a .233, transport, and a permit for most places within an hour or two of Auckland. Anyone have up to date information on where feral goat herds remain on DOC land? Any pointers would be really appreciated. Hapuakohe Range (and if so which block?), southern Coromandel? i dont have dogs but I dont mind going off track into rugged terrain - i'm into that and experienced enough with navigation etc. Thanks.

Does Auckland have wild game ?
Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Do you intend to carry the goats out?
Which is worse, ignorance or apathy...I don't know and don't care.

If god didn't want us to eat animals he wouldn't have made them out of food.

Give DOC Te Kuiti a call and then drive to Waitomo/Te Kuiti area.

Hi spook - if I had to carry them out as a condition of access I would - otherwise I would butcher on site and cart the meat out. I see you are close to the Kaimais - do you still see goats around where you are? Cheers

Been no goats near where I am in the last 25 years, but I was told of a small mob that has moved off Mt Te Aroha to the lower fields.

Tangihuas up in whangarei has plenty of goats, doc seems to be leaving them for rec hunters to control. Ok hut 30mins from the road end. I always see heap of them from the track into the hut.

Same boat as you mate always wanted to get out and do a bit of goat shooting to put an extra bit of tucker in the freezer.
