how,s it? we are off to stewart island again this time in summer, going in over the christmas break , any difference apart from daylight hours to hunting in the winter ? haven't shot a white tail yet , seen 3 and shot at one . 3rd times the charm i hope. got some some marks where there was a heap of sign but that was in october will they be in the same areas or do they have winter areas like reds?

Tucker is harder for the whitetails to come across in summer, compared to winter. A lot less windfall in the bush and seaweed thrown up on the shore. Spying a decent broadleaf tree and setting up some tucker underneath it with a game camera to pick up their daily timings can be useful. If the beach has fresh sign on it, overlooking the shoreline at dawn with the wind in your favour also worked well.

Na 1080 soured it for us, previously was one of the relatively 1080 free hunting areas. Which was one of our most desired hunting experiences. Except putting up those bloody kiwi out in the daylight. Apparently, they were the sick ones. You don't get to see the healthy ones very often normally

Stewart Island is renowned for seeing kiwis out in day time and that has been happening long before 1080 use on Island - many years before - we saw a number of kiwi during the day on our trips - so to say they are the sick ones where did you get that from - its blatantly wrong

Anywhere there is a good amount of broad leaf around, theyll be close by.

I baited an area with broadleaf for 6 days before i managed to get my first Whitetail, 8 hour wait up in a tree but it paid off just after 2230.
